E train
E trains operate between Jamaica Center (Parsons/Archer), Queens, and World Trade Center, Manhattan, at all times.

part of the IND line
this is an E train to world trade.
in a city that, over four years after september 11, 2001, is still
feeling out how to adjust to a metropolis without towers, the E train
provides a welcome reminder of the greatest buildings ever
erected. when the conductor on a southbound route says "this is
an E train to world trade," i get chills. the tendency to pretend
that the towers never existed (e.g., pulling the simpsons episode that
involved homer tightrope walking between them) does not serve the city,
nor does it serve the memory of the people who died in them.
leaving the world trade designation on the E train does.
the E is also the only train (other than shuttles) that doesn't go
outside (making it the preferred train for people who sleep on the
subway). the E express in queens is highly underrated as well
(and the best way to get to JFK!).
long live the downtown. long live the E train.
